Accounting and tax

UAE corporate tax

The UAE has a federal corporate tax regime administered by the Federal Tax Authority. This page explains in general terms who may need to register, how returns and deadlines generally work and where to find the official sources.

Who must register

In general, businesses and certain other persons carrying on activity in the UAE may need to register for corporate tax. Whether and when you must register depends on your legal form, your activities and rules that can change.

Your legal form and your location do not by themselves settle your position, so check the current rules for your company on the official website.

Returns and deadlines

Registered businesses typically file a corporate tax return and pay any tax due after the end of each financial period. The deadline and the form are set by the authority.

Preparing a return usually needs complete financial statements, so reliable bookkeeping matters early in the year, not at the deadline.

Common questions

Points businesses commonly ask about. Check how each applies to you.

UAE rules limit who may prepare and file corporate tax returns on your behalf, so check the Federal Tax Authority's guidance before you appoint anyone.

  • What if my records are incomplete?

Missing invoices or unclear bank entries make returns slow and hard to support.

  • How are income and costs classified?

Some items are treated differently for tax. Check how each applies to you.

  • What about dealings with connected persons?

Transactions with connected persons may need extra care and documentation.

  • Does ownership structure matter?

How a company is owned and grouped can affect its position.

Preparing for the filing cycle

Good habits during the year make the return easier at the end.

  • Know your financial period

Note when your financial period starts and ends, and keep it consistent.

  • Keep statements up to date

Reconciled accounts during the year mean fewer surprises later.

  • Separate business and personal spending

Mixed transactions are harder to explain and to support.

  • Keep agreements with connected persons

Written agreements help show what was agreed and why.

  • Check your registration status

Confirm on the official website whether you are registered and what the authority expects from you.

Frequently asked questions

Do all UAE companies pay corporate tax?
Not necessarily. Whether tax is due depends on your income, your activities and the rules in force. Registration and payment are separate questions, so check both.
Does a free zone company need to register?
It may. Being in a free zone does not by itself settle the question. Check the current rules for your company on the Federal Tax Authority website, or ask us.
When is the return due?
The deadline is set by the authority and relates to your financial period. Your registration and the official guidance give the dates that apply to you.
Can you reduce my tax bill?
We cannot promise any result. Tax is calculated under the rules. We can discuss how your records and structure affect your position, and you should take professional tax advice for planning decisions.
